These posts never really comes from the point of view that Alistair is a 20 year old and that you’ve just spared the person who caused him untold pain and whether you agree with his reaction or not, his reaction is valid and if it was say, the other way around with Cousland and Howe he wouldn’t be doing the same thing. So through that, I see sparing Loghain as a necessary decision to stop Alistair from letting vengeance consume him (we all know how that theme works out in DA2, really blows up in your face). But since I role-play as my PC, I see the world from her perspective. She and Alistair are clashing on whether or not it's justified to give a man the death sentence and they're both stalwart enough in their beliefs that their bond can't be reconciled. If you win the landsmeet, you've effectively taken away his power, and if he does become a warden, he has to relinquish his titles anyway. It doesn't bring back anyone he's killed, it doesn't undue his crimes.

From her perspective, killing Loghain now is meaningless. Whereas my warden finds it reprehensible to kill an unarmed man (let's ignore the video game logic of the 20 bandits you killed on the way over). He just wants to see Loghain suffer/be punished (kind of like Roy from Fullmetal alchemist in the later seasons I think?). I didn't take him with me on the final battle because I told him I didn't want him getting hurt, but oh my, he sounded so worried when he asked why he wasn't coming with.Īnd then he decided to come with me when I went home to my clan! So overall, things worked out pretty well for my warden.ĮDIT: Just wanted to pop in with a quick edit to evolve with the discussion going on! Personally, my feeling of my landsmeet outcome was less "Alistair, stop acting like a child" and more of the conflicting nature of his and my warden's philosophical outlook.Īlistair seems to have put all of his anger and grief into Loghain, so by this point, he's already mourned Duncan.

Then he gave me the earring, gave an awkward confession of love.sigh. Luckily, Zevran and I already had a bit of a flirtation built up, and our relationship brightened exponentially when he told his former Crows he wasn't about to let them try to kill me. My warden just walked out after that, not much left to say to each other. "Us? There is no 'us'! There's me, and then there's the woman who spared Duncan's murderer!" So I tell him no, and later when I try to talk to him, implore him to see it from my perspective? I try to ask him about "us" and he gives me this line: He demands I kill Loghain in cold blood, which would go against one of my most strongly held beliefs. He gets to atone for his crimes while adding to the strength of the wardens and the war effort. Then comes the suggestion of letting Loghain live as a grey warden.

I've arranged a political marriage between Alistair and Anora, though I've promised him this doesn't end our relationship. I replayed the attack on Redcliffe multiple times just trying to keep all the villagers alive! I played a dalish rogue who had a "all lives have value" kind of attitude, so she always went out of her way to save/spare anyone she could. Alright, so I just finished my first playthrough of DAO and I thought I'd share the interaction I'm still thinking about the most!
